Michael C Four decades after its release, "Conan the Destroyer" is a movie I still cannot help but enjoy to a certain extent despite the fact the movie is not all that good and is loaded with problems and flaws. As I watch it I often ask myself why I like it at all. The movie's main story is good, but it is undermined by a script that is not well written. The ensuing quest was very underwhelming in the end. There are also problems with the casting. Not all of it is bad. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Grace Jones and Mako are all very good in their respective roles. Even Tracy Walter does a decent job. However it is easy to see why "Conan the Destroyer" was the late Wilt Chamberlain's' first and last movie. He was horribly miscast as Bombaata, the Captain of Queen Taramis' guards. He made Sophia Coppola look like Meryl Streep. Olivia D'Abo is not terrible in her role as Princess Jenna, but she was not all that great either. To her credit I have seen in her in roles later in her career and she has consistently done a good job of acting. A major problem with her character is her attraction to Conan. She was fifteen at the time of filming. To the movie's credit, Jenna's attraction is not returned and he ultimately rebuffs her (Which I think was the right thing to do.). Despite the problems the movie does have positive highlights through out whoch I guess is why I still enjoy watching it today. Among such things is the, for the most part, well staged fight scenes, the climax with Dagoth is also well done. How can I forget Conan's drunken conversation with Jenna. That has stood the test of time. In the end, "Conan the Destroyer" is a movie I would enjoy, but would never recommend to anybody because they would think I am nuts. Still I try as I might, I just can't help but like it. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Howard H Special effects/costume choices are a little difficult to view at times. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Michael W This Conan sequel wasn't very good. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wilt Chamberlain, Oilivia D'Abo, Sarah Douglas, Grace Jones, Mako, Tracey Walter, and the rest of the cast did a decent job in this movie. The plot of the movie was peculiar and ridiculous. It's about going on a mission to get you want only to discover it was all a lie. If you haven't seen this movie yet, don't waste your time. It's not worth it. Nota: 3 Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
